Palabos 2012 Challenge
Write a Palabos application and win 1'000 Euros
Register soon: registration deadline on April 21
FlowKit Ltd. offers a 1'000 Euro reward for the most intriguing, innovative or insightul numerical simulation based on Palabos.
With the richness of physical models that are implemented in the Palabos library, lattice Boltzmann simulations have started popping up in the most unexpected application areas. The purpose of this contest is to increase the public knowledge of these applications, and to create a base for cooperation and synergies in the community.
Prizes

First Prize 1'000 Euros |
|
Second Prize Palabos Pro Desktop Edition Support formula (worth 600 Euros) |

Fourth Prize A USB cup warmer/cooler |
Conditions
Write a Palabos application that tackles a problem in your field of expertise, and send us the code with a short documentation of the obtained results (with pictures or movies of any kind if they help to illustrate your point). You're not expected to present a scientific study as you would for a journal publication. Instead, we'd like to be impressed with a showcase of the lattice Boltzmann method applied in practice, intelligently combining multiple physical ingredients, or otherwise suggesting novel breakthroughs that can be obtained in the field of CFD with the lattice Boltzmann method.
Participants retain the intellectual property of their programs. All submitted codes and data are however required to be provided under the terms of an open-source license, as the contributions will be made available to the community after the contest. The section "Practical Aspects" below explains how to achieve this.
The exact terms and conditions of the contest can be obtained here.
Jury
Submitted contributions will be preselected by the contest committee. The final winners will be determined by a four-member Jury of reputed CFD experts:

Practical Aspects
Registration bears no obligation. We recommend that you register as soon as possible to avoid the deadline rush, and to receive the newsletter for the contest.
Submission. At any time after registering and before May 1st 2012, 24 pm, please submit your project by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If you have many large data files (such as animations), please split them over several e-mails so they are smaller than 10 MB each. If a single data file is larger than 10 MB, please upload it to a file sharing service and send us the link. Important: all submitted codes must include a copyright message and a BSD 2-clause license. Simply copy-paste the license template into each of your code files, in the form of a comment, and replace the <YEAR> and <OWNER> entries by the appropriate content. If the code files fail to meet this requirement, the submission cannot be considered for the contest.
Getting started and support. If you are not already a Palabos user, have a look at the gallery to get inspired of Palabos' abilities. Palabos comes with many example applications you can use to get started. Finally, don't forget to post your questions on the forum if you get stuck.
Organizers
The contest is organized by FlowKit Ltd., the main developer and supervisor of the Palabos code.
